About Us
Planet Roving officially started back in 2011, when John B had a idea to develop a 3D space-themed dog-fighting game. He thought of a name and came up with Planet Roving. After looking for friends to help develop the game, he was confronted with a massive obstacle. Code. Yep, the lines of text that fills entire pages. He started to look for people, adults that were in the indie game development industry, and luckily, one was found.
John S suggested to John B, to start making basic 2D games, and to use drag-and-drop coding. John B, gathered friends to together develop games, and even generate a small income. And thus, Planet Roving was the name given to the company.
A website needed to be made. Planet Roving went through many different hosting providers, many of which were free. This was due to the team comprising of primary-school aged students, which nobody had access to money. Planet Roving started at http://planetroving.page.tl/ (it's still there) and then moved onto http://planetroving.webs.com/ (site frozen). This site you're on now has been Planet Roving's home since 2012, and still is.
Back on the topic of game development, the first ever game engine used was Stencyl, a free 2D game engine that allowed users to use drag and drop coding. It was used to make the majority of the 2D games you can play on here. Now, Planet Roving is working to create more complex games. Now enters the world of 3D games. John S suggested Unity 3D as an option. This was taken up instantly. At that time, it could only create 3D games. Now, it has the function to create 2D games as well. So Planet Roving will publish a few 3D games some time soon. When? I don't know. It takes a while for one person to make a complex game.
In 2014, Planet Roving's YouTube channel was created, with the aim to publish Let's Play videos and animations for other people to be entertained. Now the channel has amassed over 400 subscribers and plenty of views. In 2015, the old channel was abandoned due to various reasons, and a new channel has been created, which has fresh content every week! It can be accessed by clicking on the YouTube icon on the top right corner of any page.
Looking towards the future, Planet Roving hopes to create The Planet Roving Network. Games, gaming servers, animations and more. A YouTube channel that has, hopefully, over 10,000 subscribers. But of course, not everything you dream of can happen. So for now, small things first. We hope you can join us on our journey and support us, by donating.
